The Electric Bi-Fold System

Sometimes, Smaller is Better

The patented SST-II Electrically Actuated Bi-Fold System (Patent No. 8,714,229) utilizes electric actuators in place of hydraulic cylinders, offering a more affordable option for smaller openings (up to 8′ x 6′ high), without the excess power of the hydraulic system. Folding open, vertically, like its larger sibling, the Bi-Fold Electric System allows for the same smooth access between environments with just the press of a button.

Perfect for residential or architectural applications and smaller commercial openings, the SST-II Electrically Actuated Bi-Fold System dissolves the barrier between interior and exterior allowing for simple passage between spaces, or to allow the ambience of the outdoors to flow in.

Why Electric Bi-Fold?

Electrically Actuated

The use of electric actuators eliminates cables, straps, locking mechanisms, pulley’s, springs, etc., offering the cleanest and least obstructive panel face in the market.

Safety

The electrically actuated system eliminates all pinch points and moving parts typically associated with a cable or strap system.

Self Contained

The electric actuators are self-contained, meaning no auxiliary motor or power unit is needed and you are left with a cleaner finished system.

Easy Installation

The Bi-Fold Electric System may be delivered fully-assembled, meaning you are simply placing the system within the rough opening, and attaching to your surrounding structure.

All Steel Construction

Narrower steel profiles allow for more glass volume and greater visibility.

Features

  • Shipped powder-coat finished. A full array of standard, non-standard, and custom colors are available, with few exceptions.
  • Total security without the use of locking mechanisms – The electric actuators draw the system panels tightly closed, without the use of aux. locking mechanisms, providing a safe, secure closure.
  • Full perimeter weather seals
  • Integral mounting frame to limit loads on the structure
  • Heavy-duty bottom rollers are completely captured by the SST-II frame, keeping the system secure.
  • No floor/sill track is required – Nothing to impair movement through the opening
  • When open the system forms an awning providing protection from the weather and sun
  • The use of electric actuators eliminates the need for limit switches

Options

Controls

Choose from a standard up/down, 2-button, or key control for system operation. A weather-resistant control is also available. All controls are constant contact.

Safety

Infrared photo eyes or a lead-edge sensor are available, to either stop, or stop and reverse the motion of the door or window. Optional warning horn and strobe light indicate system operation.

Remote Operation

Remote Transmitters offer ease of entry upon approach. Transmitters are constant contact. For safety reasons, we require either photo eyes or a lead-edge sensor with remote transmitters.

Cladding

For turn-key products, we offer our glass retainer system (glass stops) and a variety of dual or single pane glazing options. All factory-supplied glass is laminated for safety. Customers may also elect to provide a virtually unlimited number of inserts such as polycarbonate, steel or wood, to name just a few.

Finish

Crown Doors finishes each of our projects right here, in factory, using our state-of-the-art powder-coat facility, and our custom-design mantra follows through to our finish options as well – A full array of standard, non-standard, and custom colors are available, with few exceptions. We maintain a small list of customer-favorite colors as “standards,” though virtually any “non-standard” or entirely custom finish options are available (may affect cost and lead time).

Additionally, projects may be manufactured from stainless steel, available for corrosive environments (seaside or pool house installations). Stainless systems may be powder-coated as well.
